Ireland’s next National Biodiversity Action Plan (or NBAP) is currently being prepared to respond to the biodiversity emergency, and to meet Ireland’s national and international obligations under global agreements on sustainability and nature conservation.
The NBAP will aim to drive the whole-of-government, whole-of-society approach which is necessary to ensure that our rich natural heritage is fully appreciated and conserved, and that the benefits it provides are used sustainably and in a fair and equitable manner.
The development of the next NBAP is being led by NPWS with support from a team of experts led by KPMG. A draft version of the plan is due to be published for public consultation later this summer, and the National Biodiversity Conference 2022 is an important aspect of this process.
The event at Dublin Castle and online on June 8&9 is an opportunity for various stakeholders to present their views and offer feedback on the plan and what it should achieve.
At the Day 1 Plenary session KPMG will present a summary of work done on developing the plan to date, with information on recent stakeholder engagement with groups including the NPWS NBAP Steering Committee, the Biodiversity Working Group, the National Biodiversity Forum, and the Business For Biodiversity Platform Advisory Group.
KPMG, NPWS and Natural Capital Ireland will also be facilitating a National Biodiversity Action Breakfast Clinic on the morning of Day 2 of the conference, to facilitate direct engagement with conference attendees on the NBAP.
In advance of these conference events, attendees are invited to read the NBAP 'summary of work to date' document below.
